Palava Hosts Maharashtra’s First Para Table Tennis Championship

In December 2025, Palava hosted Maharashtra’s first state-level Para Table Tennis Championship, marking a significant addition to the state’s competitive sporting calendar.

The championship brought together 35 para-athletes from nine districts across Maharashtra, competing across recognised para categories. The event was organised under the guidance of the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association, with support from the Table Tennis Club at Palava, and was conducted as a formally structured state-level competition.

A State-Level Platform for Para Athletes

The tournament provided athletes with a professionally managed environment aligned to state competition standards. Matches were conducted on regulation tables, with structured scheduling and officiation, allowing participants to focus entirely on the game.

For many players, this championship represented an opportunity to compete at a higher level within a recognised framework, something that para athletes in the state have historically had limited access to.

The Role of the Venue

State-level para sporting events require more than just indoor courts. Accessibility, ease of movement, indoor climate control, and dependable logistics are essential.

Palava was selected as the host venue due to the readiness of its sports infrastructure and its ability to support such requirements without modification or temporary arrangements. The Olympic Sports Centre & Lakeshore Club offered athletes a controlled, accessible, and competition-ready setting, enabling the event to run efficiently and without disruption.

The venue functioned as it should - quietly, reliably, and in service of the sport.

Looking Ahead

As para sport continues to find greater representation within India’s competitive landscape, events like this help set expectations around organisation, facilities, and athlete experience.

For Palava, hosting Maharashtra’s first Para Table Tennis Championship was an opportunity to support a well-run, state-level sporting event - one where the focus remained exactly where it belonged: on the athletes and the game.
