In this edition of Spectacular Spaces, we invite you to discover a Skybound Sanctuary — a masterwork of layered textures, tailored elegance, and global influences, set within Lodha Trump Tower, one of the tallest residential projects by one of the top builders in Mumbai.
Set on the 71st floor, this luxury apartment in Mumbai offers a rare blend of contemporary cosmopolitanism and quiet retreat. Conceptualised by top interior designers in India, Anjali Rawat, founder of the design studio ARA, the home speaks of a thoughtful interplay between function, material, and personal narrative.
“There wasn’t a formal brief,” Rawat shares. “But during our first conversation, it became clear that the client was extremely well-travelled. He had a sharp eye, a refined aesthetic, and a preference for spaces that feel lived-in yet impeccably curated.” This insight shaped the direction of the project — a home that would accommodate both intimate evenings and larger gatherings, all while exuding warmth, character, and timeless appeal.
As such, the spatial planning revolves around a series of interconnected zones — elegant formal seating areas, more relaxed lounges, a bar, and corners designed for solitary reflection. “We treated each zone like a moment, giving it a distinct identity but ensuring it flowed naturally into the next,” explains Rawat. This layered approach to layout creates a sense of movement within the apartment, without ever disrupting the overall tranquillity.
Design inspiration for this luxury flat in Mumbai emerged from the rustic beauty of the French countryside, a theme that at first seems unexpected for a sleek city apartment in the sky. “That contrast is exactly what we wanted to explore,” says Rawat. “The elegance of rural French homes; their tactile finishes, earthy palettes, and quiet charm were a wonderful counterpoint to the contemporary shell of the apartment. It allowed us to bring in something poetic and grounded.”
The resulting palette is rich and diverse, with natural materials taking centre stage. There is a generous use of fluted marble and locally sourced Indian stone, paired with textured wood, linen, velvet, brass inlays, and handmade rugs. Rawat is quick to point out that the materials weren’t chosen to impress; they were selected to comfort, to endure, and to reveal beauty over time.
Lighting, too, is treated with careful attention. Sculptural luminaires from Indian design houses such as Linerozi and Ashiesh Shah create moments of drama and intimacy, while centrepieces from Bengaluru-based Gunava anchor the lounges with sculpted solidity. “Styling is the second most important stage after design,” Rawat explains. “It’s where you fine-tune the emotion of the space.”
One of her favourite corners in the home is a quiet den that features a hand-painted wallpaper by Kalakaari Haath, set against a wood-panelled wall. “It feels like a secret room,” she says. “There’s a sense of calm and closeness. The ducted wooden centre table, the floating pendant above, it all works together to draw you in.” The space is cocooned, yet open to the surrounding views with a balance that runs throughout the home.
Speaking of views, they are undeniably the home’s most dramatic feature. The soaring height of the 71st floor of this luxury penthouse in Mumbai offers an uninterrupted sweep of Mumbai’s skyline, a panorama of city lights, sea, and sky. “When we walked in for the first time, I knew the design had to honour that view,” says Rawat. “Everything had to be intentional to frame the skyline, not compete with it.”
Despite the luxurious finishes and globally inspired styling, there’s nothing ostentatious about the home. It feels personal, quiet, and deeply livable. “To me, good design is about how a space makes you feel,” Rawat reflects. “It should elevate your mood, support your routine, and leave you feeling both grounded and inspired.”
This philosophy of quiet sophistication defines the apartment: a residence that embodies craftsmanship, celebrates materiality, and offers a modern interpretation of retreat living in the sky. It is a true expression of what Spectacular Spaces stands for: homes that don’t merely impress, but resonate. In a world where noise often masquerades as luxury, this one whispers with elegance, intention, and extraordinary poise.
