Perched high on the 70th floor of Lodha World Towers in the heart of Mumbai, this private residence unfolds as a study in ivory, where classical proportion meets contemporary restraint. Designed by Sumessh Menon of SMA, the 5,000-square-foot home reflects the Kataria family’s vision of a residence rooted in timeless European design. Drawing from the architectural language of Rome, Menon shaped the plan into a gentle crescent, allowing the principal living areas to open onto a wraparound deck overlooking Mumbai’s skyline.

Revival of a Neoclassical Style

Veined marble traces the architectural lines of the interiors, forming sculpted surfaces and structured volumes. Gridded white ceilings meet softly lit arches, reinforcing the classical framework of the space. At the centre of the living room, a bespoke mosaic wall acts as the focal point, composed of hand-laid glass tiles, metal inlays and leafing. The monochromatic depiction of Roman pillars and a female silhouette introduces a classical reference that echoes the architectural language of the room.

An all-natural Alps rug by Minotti anchors the seating arrangement, adding texture within the restrained palette. The living area is organised to support both gathering and movement, with furniture placed to maintain clear sightlines across the room. The plan separates the entertainment spaces from the bedrooms, allowing the residence to host guests while preserving privacy for the family.

Bespoke Craftsmanship and Material Details

Conceived as an intimate setting for hosting, the dining area is defined by veined marble cladding and a hand-blown Venetian chandelier by iDogi - a historic atelier known for artistic glass lighting. Suspended above the table, its individual glass elements introduce subtle colour and movement within the otherwise muted composition.

The dining table, custom-made by Pallavi AMH, combines gilded and leafed detailing beneath a glass surface, demonstrating the level of craft embedded throughout the residence. Beyond the formal spaces, the family lounge and bedrooms adopt a softer material language, expressed through muted tones and tactile finishes.

Across the home, neoclassical detailing is interpreted with discipline, allowing proportion, material and craftsmanship to define the interiors. Each space holds its own identity while remaining connected through a restrained palette and consistent detailing.
