Healthy Eating: Myths vs Facts

By LODHA

June 16, 2020

Food habits vary from person to person. For some, it may just be a routine practice to intake nutrients to survive, while for others, it brings a deeper emotional connection. Nevertheless, the common thread is staying healthy. Healthy food is more in vogue than ever. However, many of us struggle to take up a healthy lifestyle. Add to that the numerous myths revolving around healthy foods, and we again go back to square one. These myths are so often repeated, and infused in our culture that it's difficult to see beyond them.

So here are some of the biggest myths about healthy eating, busted.

-         Not all calories are equal: By adopting healthier food groups and portion control, based on estimation, most of us can eat healthy without the hassles of counting calories. When counting calories, it is the quality that matters more than the quantity. Calories obtained from eating a kale salad does a lot more for your body than calories obtained from added sugary foods like donuts. At Belmondo, you can look for an array of healthy options - from a refreshing quinoa salad to a Spanakopita - at the Juice Bar or the restaurant and choose what suits you.

-         Too busy to eat healthily: Healthy food doesn't take more time to prepare than junk food. You'd be surprised to find the difference it brings if you replace white rice with brown rice or bread with kale wraps. If we replace certain ingredients in our daily diet, with healthier options, it'll have a significant impact. Like at our restaurant Edgewood, where regular meals are given a healthy quirky twist while retaining the same exquisite taste!

-         You need to follow an extreme diet: There's a lot of research pointing at reducing carbs for better health. While it may be true, practicing an extreme diet to achieve it isn't a sustainable option. Indian foods are traditionally carb-rich, and by synchronizing an extreme diet regime with such a lifestyle, we will tire ourselves out quickly. To be healthy and to stay healthy, we must ask ourselves, what is the diet that we can stick to?

-         You need to eliminate certain food groups: The key is a balanced diet, with significant amounts of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The polarization of food groups results in an intake of only certain nutrients - akin to an extreme diet. All food groups have their distinct advantages, and only through a balanced meal can one stay healthy.

-         Healthy food is boring: Now, that's a myth we all have fallen for! Healthy food can be as enjoyable as you want it to be. You just need to find your flavor preference, mix-and-match and create something that works for you. What's more, at Belmondo, you can grow herbs and vegetables at the Organic Farm and get them straight from farm to fork! Isn't that exciting and healthy?
