MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 23, 2018 00:44 IST
It’s special to be able to be here, honoured to have a place in the city, says Trump Jr.
Businessman Donald Trump Jr., U.S. President Donald Trump’s eldest son, on Thursday announced the ‘topping out’ of India’s first Trump Tower project by the Lodha Group in Worli.
The topping out — which refers to installing the last beam in a structure or completing the roof of a building — was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on top of the building. Trump Tower Mumbai was launched in 2014, and is slated to be completed in a year. “This milestone brings the customers of Trump Tower Mumbai one step closer to experiencing the amalgamation of the Trump and Lodha lifestyles,” said a Lodha statement.
Mr. Trump Jr., executive vice-president, Trump Organization, said, “We are incredibly proud to announce that Trump Tower Mumbai has reached its highest level of construction. Having worked on this project from inception, it is very special to be able to be in India for this wonderful occasion. Mumbai has emerged as one of the most preferable destinations for luxury real estate and we are honoured to have a place within the city,” Mr. Trump Jr. also unveiled the show residence designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates.
Mr. Lodha, said, “The topping out of Trump Tower Mumbai is a significant milestone for the luxury housing market as well as the overall real estate sector. It is perhaps one of the very few international standard luxury developments which is coming alive and nearing completion. It is a moment of great personal satisfaction to witness the fruition of our passion and efforts.”
Mr. Trump Jr. also met some industry leaders, including RPG Group chairman Harsh Goenka, Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal, Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej and Essar Group CEO Prashant Ruia. He also met Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot.
One business leader told The Hindu, “He is basically here to forward his business interests in India, though he can’t sign a new deal as long as his father is the U.S. President. He seemed very sharp, focused, confident and unguarded, unlike a U.S. President’s son, who is supposed to be more diplomatic.”
Mr. Goenka tweeted, “Frank, fun and an astute deal maker like his dad. A true chip of the old block! ‘Tower’ing personality. Let’s see whether he comes up Trumps in India.”
